Semi-Rigid Erosion Control Techniques with Geotextiles Applied to Reservoir Margins in Hydroelectric Power Plants, Brazil

In Brazil, hydroelectricity represents close to 70% of the energy consumed in country. However, hydroelectric plant operations may be affected by deposit sediments for erosive processes on reservoir margins. This study presents results implementing two semi-rigid erosion control techniques installed margins Brazilian Hydroelectric Power Plants (HPPs). These were gabion and mattress used as a mixed technique geogrid technique. paper highlights importance geotextiles construction process these techniques, taking advantage their separation properties. The performance was evaluated using qualitative variables differential bathymetry studies performed 2016 2020 experimental units each HPP. Moreover, degradation installation through thermal analysis. that showed best mattress. Regarding exhumed geotextiles, analyses have shown commercial can withstand temperatures up 200 °C leading no changes structure.
